For someone who’d just defended his title three weeks ago, Deiveson Figueiredo looked in his usual killer form at UFC 256 against Brandon Moreno. But his fight day was apparently a rough one.

As he revealed through a translator during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Figueiredo spent the wee hours of Saturday in the hospital, battling a stomach infection.

“I had something happen to me yesterday. I had an infection in my stomach. I was in the hospital until 2 a.m.,” he said. “And I didn’t know how I was gonna be able to perform, but hopefully, I did a good job.

“I came in here and I put my blood, sweat, and tears into this, and I have to thank my team and everyone that helped me to put on this performance tonight.”

As stated by UFC president Dana White during the post-fight presser, Figueiredo was immediately transported back to the hospital after the fight.

The back-and-forth barnburner between the two elite 125-pounders was a close one all throughout. But after a point deduction on Figueiredo for a low blow in the third round and judge Junichiro Kamijo scoring the fifth round for Moreno, the bout ended with a majority draw verdict.
