UFC Vegas 16: Final stats for record-breaking main event

In the lead up to Saturday’s UFC Vegas 16 fight card, there were rumblings that the odds didn’t seem correct for the main event. That contest, which was a middleweight matchup, featured Jack Hermansson vs. Marvin Vettori. Vettori was the favorite.

On paper, Hermansson had fought tougher competition. He had scored wins over David Branch, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and most recently, Hermansson had submitted Kelvin Gastelum. Vettori, who was on a three-fight winning streak entering UFC Vegas 16, was best known for losing a split decision to current UFC middleweight kingpin Israel Adesanya in 2018.

Another reason the odds were a little shocking was that Vettori was a late replacement — a late replacement who had never fought in a UFC main event before.

It turned out that the oddsmakers had it right. Vettori won the bout by unanimous decision. He dropped the third round on all three scorecards, but won the other four rounds. The contest won “Fight of the Night” honors and set several UFC middleweight records in the process.

Hermansson vs. Vettori is now in the UFC record book for most significant strikes landed in a middleweight fight, most significant strikes attempted in a single UFC middleweight contest and most total strikes attempted in one UFC 185-pound bout.

Below are the final fight stats for the UFC Vegas 16 matchup between Hermansson and Vettori.
