Rising UFC middleweight contender Jack Hermansson thinks Israel Adesanya moving up in weight to challenge Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight title is a good thing, unlike UFC Vegas 16 opponent Marvin Vettori.
Hermansson understands that the UFC want to create a superstar in Adesanya and believes ‘The Last Stylebender’ becoming a two-division champion would actually be good for his own career.
‘The Joker’ is confident Adesanya will return to middleweight after beating Blachowicz and says it would be an honor to beat ‘the double champ’.
“Yeah, definitely. But, they want to create that next super, superstar. So, I understand why they are doing it,” Hermansson told BJPENN.com in a recent interview. “I really hope he wins that fight because I want to beat Adesanya when he is undefeated and it would be cooler to beat the double champ. As long as he wins, I am okay with it.”
“I really believe he will go back down after Blachowicz,” he added. “He might fight Jon Jones one day but I don’t think he is super eager to go up there,” Hermansson said. “I can see him thinking Jan is an easier fight than Jones and can go up and get the belt, do a couple of middleweight fights then go up and fight Jones.”
Before Hermansson fights Adesanya, however, the Swede must first get past Vettori. Both men will lock horns in the UFC on ESPN 19 main event later tonight, Dec. 5 at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.
