Earlier this week it was announced that three-division boxing world champion and and two-time Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields had signed with PFL and would be making her professional MMA debut in April.

“I feel like I have a chance now, but once we go to the ground and stuff, I have to learn that. Me being an Olympic athlete, I know that I can learn a different sport and catch on quicker than just a regular person.

“If they put me in 4 oz gloves, they’ll be calling me Muhammad Ali because these hands will be floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee,” Shields said.

Making the transition to MMA is no easy task for any athlete but, judging from recent video footage, Shields is putting in the work and taking her MMA training very seriously.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was particularly impressed by what he saw in the video, which you can see below.

“OK this is pretty exciting,” Jones said of Shield’s hitting the pads with punches, kicks, and flying knees.

Shields will make her MMA debut on April 23 against a TBD opponent.

Edit: Shields will be training alongside Jones at JacksonWink MMA academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico, per ESPN MMA.
