Jack Hermansson has fought at the top of two UFC events. Going all five rounds in April 2019, Hermansson with perennial middleweight title contender Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. Beyond simply the cage time, Hermansson truly made the most of the contest, putting his name in the UFC record book multiple times for the stats he racked up. On Saturday, Hermansson competes opposite Marvin Vettori in the headlining bout of UFC Vegas 16, where he’ll get yet another shot to make history.
Hermansson’s matchup against Souza was his first UFC main event. The victory put the ‘Joker’ on a four-fight winning streak. Unfortunately for him, in his next trip to the Octagon Hermansson faced Jared Cannonier at the top of the UFC Copenhagen fight card. Cannonier won that fight via second-round TKO. But Hermansson bounced back quickly with a first round submission over former interim title contender Kelvin Gastelum.
Vettori enters this bout on his own three-fight winning streak, having never headlined a UFC fight card, nor gone five rounds in his career. His most recent outing came in June when he submitted Karl Roberson in the first round of the UFC Vegas 2 event. Vettori’s prior two victories were decision wins.
Heading into the middleweight bout between these two, the UFC has Hermansson ranked No. 4 in the 185-pound division, while Vettori checks in at No. 13.
