Returning UFC light heavyweight contender Thiago Santos is not too happy with the division’s title picture upon his comeback. Paired up against Glover Teixeira for a main event bout at UFC Vegas 13 on Saturday, ‘Marreta’ does not understand why newly crowned champion Jan Blachowicz is already taking superfights before even having one title defense under his belt.

In an interview with Ag Fight, a confused Santos pointed out how unfair to himself and Teixeira the Adesanya pairing is. However, Marreta remains optimistic that the bout might not take place at all and he could still be in a title eliminator with Teixeira next Saturday.

“Just like many times before, what’s fair won’t always happen,” Santos said. “Nothing is certain yet, though. Anything can happen, things change all the time. We’ll see. First, I need to do my job (beat Glover) and then we will see what happens.”

“I don’t know what (Blachowicz) wants,” Thiago continued. “He said that (he was interested in having a rematch with Marreta for his first title defense). But now he wants to fight Adesanya. I don’t know what he wants.”

In his last outing, Thiago Santos (21-7) fought Jon Jones to a split decision, back in July 2019. He’s been out ever since after surgery on both knees, with his injuries very noticeable when he took on Jones. Before that, the 36-year-old was on a four-fight winning streak, with victories over Kevin Holland, Eryk Anders, Jimi Manuwa and Jan Blachowicz.

Now, Thiago Santos is expected to take on Glover Teixeira at UFC Vegas 13’s main event, at the APEX Center in Nevada, on November 7.
