Right before Khabib Nurmagomedov’s impressive win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, elite middleweights Jared Cannonier and Robert Whittaker duked it out in the co-headliner. After a 15-minute battle that was predominantly fought on the feet, it was the former 185-pound champion who got his hand raised via a unanimous decision verdict.

Cannonier wore the damage on his right cheek with a cut below his eye. But as he revealed in a post-fight Instagram statement, he also “broke or fractured” the ulna bone on his left forearm.

That didn’t go exactly how I wanted but My spirits remain high and I’m happy with how I fought all things considered. The very first kick he threw broke or fractured my left ulna I couldn’t find my grove and adjust quickly to get the W so I’ll take my L with pride.

@robwhittakermma certainly lived up to my expectations before and after the fight. Congrats mate. Enjoy Xmas and the new (baby). It was a hell of an experience to be here. Can’t wait to go again.

Cannonier was on a three-fight TKO win streak heading into the Whittaker fight, two of which he won Performance of the Night bonuses for.
