Even on fight day, there was still time for another UFC VEGAS 9 bout to fall through. After lightweight Thiago Moises’ COVID-19 test came back positive, his match against Jalin Turner was called off, Combate reports.

Riddled with injuries and positive COVID-19 tests, UFC Vegas 9 saw several fights being cancelled in the weeks coming up to its date, with this lightweight match being just the most recent of them all.

Other athletes, such as Maryna Moroz, Nicco Montano, Karol Rosa, Khama Worthy and Ottmazan Azaitar, among others, were all linked to the event at one point in time, but were forced out of their fights. Now, the card will go on with just eight contests, so far.

In his last outing, Thiago Moises (13-4) tapped out seasoned veteran Michael Johnson with a rare achilles lock, back in May. The victory came right after a unanimous decision defeat to Damir Ismugalov, in August 2020.

UFC Fight Night 176 is still scheduled to take place at the UFC Apex, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 5. The card is expected to be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and rising prospect Augusto Sakai.
