According to MMA Fighting the UFC is working on rebooking Gerald Meerschaert vs. Ed Herman for their event scheduled to take place on September 12. The middleweight clash was originally booked for UFC Vegas 5, which took place on August 1st.

Meerschaert was one of a number of fighters pulled from UFC Vegas 5 both in the days leading up to and during the event itself. His fight with Herman was canceled just hours before the show began at the UFC’s APEX facility.

The reason for the cancellation: Meerschaert tested positive COVID-19.

But both Meerschaert and the UFC seem confident that he will be past any symptoms and no longer contagious when September 12th rolls around. Headlining that event, which is scheduled to take place at the UFC APEX, is a light heavyweight contest between Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santos.

Meerschaert will head into his fight with Herman hoping to rebound from his TKO loss to Ian Heinisch at UFC 250 in June. Since joining the UFC in December, 2016 Meerschaert has gone 6-5 with the promotion. He has wins over Deron Winn, Trevin Giles and Oskar Piechota.

Ed Herman has been with the UFC since 2006. His first official fight with the promotion was in the finale for The Ultimate Fighter: Season 3. At the finale Herman lost the middleweight tournament finale to Kendall Grove. Since then Herman has fought 23 times for the UFC.

Herman is currently riding a two fight winning streak with a unanimous decision victory over Khadis Ibragimov last time out at UFC Fight Night: Magomedsharipov vs. Kattar last November.
