In the main event of UFC Vegas 6, Derrick Lewis unloaded a barrage of strikes on the ground to stop Aleksei Oleinik in the second round.
What was the high point of the fight?
Lewis came out aggressive at the start of the fight, landing a head kick followed by a flurry of strikes. After Lewis took Oleinik to the ground, “The Boa Constrictor” came close to a scarfhold submission but Lewis did a good job to break free.
At the beginning of the second round, “The Black Beast” landed a flying knee followed by a heavy punch that dropped Oleinik. Lewis followed up with some heavy ground and pound that forced referee Herb Dean to stop the fight.
Where do they go from here?
It’s Lewis’ third consecutive win at heavyweight after picking up decisions against Ilir Latifi and Blagoy Ivanov in his last fights. Already ranked fourth in the UFC’s heavyweight rankings, only a fight against Curtis Blaydes or a rematch with Francis Ngannou makes sense for Lewis next.
The stoppage loss to Lewis puts an end to Oleinik’s two fight winning streak. The Russian recently said he only wants to fight big names, but given he isn’t in a position to pick and chose his opponent a fight with Alexander Volkov seems a logical one to make for Oleinik.
Watch it now, later or never?
It was a ruthless ending to the fight from Lewis, watch it now.
