The UFC Vegas 5 main event was the setting where the MMA brand’s #8 ranked middleweight, Derek Brunson, put a hurting on the #9 ranked, Edmen Shahbazyan. It was neck and neck in the opening round. Both men landed plenty of quality strikes, Brunson with the kicks and Shahbazyan with the punches. The seocnd round saw a different story. Brunson ended up on top of Shahbazyan dropping some serious hammers, almost picking up the ground and pound finish just before the bell. The doctor came in to check on Shahbazyan at the start of the final round, and although the fighter was cleared to continue, 26-seconds later the fight was over. Brunson quickly got the takedown and started to land more ground strikes and likely the referee qs right there to prevent any further damage to Shahbazyan.

Check out Tim Burke’s play-by-play of Derek Brunson’s destruction of Edmen Shahbazyan:

Round 3 – Shahbazyan is up and ready to figth but the doctor will check on him. He is able to continue, but for how long? Brunson with a lead left and he drags Shahbazyan to the mat. He lands two more shots and Herb Dean waves it off.

Derek Brunson defeated Edmen Shahbazyan via TKO (strikes), :26 of round 3
