UFC Fight Island 2 results: Jack Hermansson submits Kelvin Gastelum with heel hook

The UFC Fight Island 2 co-main event just witnessed the company’s #7 ranked middleweight, Jack Hermansson, submit the #6 ranked, Kelvin Gastelum, with a heel hook in the first round.

Gastelum pressured right away, backing up Hermansson to the cage with his boxing. Hermansson used his kicks to keep his foe at range, but he ended up on the bottom after getting a takedown reversed. Hermansson remained calm and attacked Gastelum with a leg lock. Gastelum was caught out of position and Hermansson cranked on the heel hook. Gastelum had no choice but to tap out.

Hermansson is back in the win column and has now won five of his last six. Not only does he preserve his spot at 185-pounds, but also sets himself up for an upcoming fight with another one of the division’s heavy hitters. In his post-fight interview, he called for the winner of the upcoming Robert Whittaker and Darren Till matchup.
