Henry Cejudo’s shock retirement may have been a negotiating ploy after all, as ‘The Messenger’ is already talking about a potential super-fight with UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Cejudo retired after his successful bantamweight title defense against Dominick Cruz at UFC 249, but the former two-division champ says he would come out of retirement if offered the opportunity to fight for a third world title and etch his name into the history books as ‘the greatest mixed martial artist of all time’.
“I’ve done everything in MMA. I’m satisfied with my career. There would only be one fight that would really bring me back, that would really wake me up in the morning … it would be Alexander Volkanovski.”
“I want a 3rd title because I want to be different,” Cejudo told TMZ Sports in a recent interview. “To go into the history books as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.”
Volkanovski, 31, hasn’t fought since he usurped longtime featherweight champ Max Holloway at UFC 245. The newly-crowned 145-pound champ was teased to face ‘Blessed’ in an immediate rematch at UFC 251, but the bout fell through due to the government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
