Before injuries and Father Time started getting the best of him, there was no denying that Carlos Condit was one of the “BMFs” of his era. His clean knockout of Dan Hardy that made Robert Downey Jr. jump out of his seat remains to be up there in the all-time classic highlight reels list, as with his other bouts both in the UFC and WEC.
Apparently, the “Natural Born Killer” persona extends outside the cage, especially when he’s laced up with a pair of gloves. A member of the US Army learned that the hard way when Condit, along with BJ Penn, Michael Bisping, and Urijah Faber paid a visit to the troops in Afghanistan in June 2008.
A decade later, “The Count” still had a clear recollection of that trip, particularly the moment when Condit unfortunately sparred with one of the soldiers.
As Bisping recalls:
All of a sudden, right then and there, this Special Forces guy… Bang! Sucker punches him as hard as he can. And I mean a f—ng hard shot. Bear in mind, we were at the top of a mountain in Afghanistan in a war zone, a very, very small base. These guys are running the show. They’ve got machine guns, etc., etc…
This guy hits Carlos in the face as hard as he can. (Condit) shakes his head, gets his sh-t together. And then just goes at the guy. Jab, right hand, left head kick… Boom. Knocks the f—ng Special Forces dude unconscious.
And everyone’s looking around the room like, “Holy sh-t!” And I’m like, “Oh, Carlos, I’m not sure if that was the smartest thing to do. For f—k’s sake, I don’t want to die up here.”
Currently sidelined with a five-fight losing streak, the 36-year-old Condit remains uncertain about his career. But for old times’ sake, here is the clip of that legendary sparring match with Bisping’s narration in the background.
