Joanna Jedrzejczyk is known for her intensity during staredowns, but the former UFC strawweight champion was more tense than usual during yesterday’s UFC 248 media day face off with Weili Zhang.
Here’s what Jedrzejczyk said to Zhang before the reigning UFC strawweight champ told her to ‘shut up’ (h/t MMA Junkie).
“What you have done yesterday to my fans, you never do that,” Jedrzejczyk said. “You don’t (expletive) with Polish nation. Why did you do that? I will outclass you on Saturday.”
It turns out Zhang did disrespect Joanna’s fans by flipping the bird at them during Wednesday’s open workout session, but this came in response to disrespectful chants of ‘Corona Virus’ from the crowd.
You can see Zhang giving Polish fans the middle finger at 0:34 of the video posted below.
Zhang’s manager, Brian Butler, says UFC security was forced to take action after the incident.
“For the record, whatever Joanna is saying about [Weili Zhang] disrespecting her fans is absolutely fabricated. The only people being disrespectful was them by yelling coronavirus to Weili during her session. UFC security was well aware of this and took action immediately.”
Zhang, who says she felt ‘like a refuge’ trying to enter the US due to the corona virus outbreak, will defend her strawweight title against Jedrzejczyk in the UFC 248 co-main event. The PPV extravaganza takes place tomorrow night, March 7 at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.
