Yoel Romero is an athletic specimen.

At 42-years-old and with an Olympic silver medal to his name, ‘Soldier of God’ is one of the most feared fighters in the UFC middleweight division and often finds himself as the butt of one of Darren Till’s jokes, who wishes to avoid the Cuban powerhouse at all costs.

Romero is one of the most dangerous and explosive fighters in the UFC and, although he’s also one of the oldest fighters in the game, the American Top Team (ATT) product will be looking to prove that age is just a number when he takes on Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title at UFC 248 on Saturday.

”I want to prove there are no limits, that age is pretty much a number,” he told reporters at the UFC 248 open workouts on Wednesday, per MMA Fighting’s Steven Marrocco. “I think you can do anything if you believe in yourself. If you live a disciplined lifestyle, if you live a not so emotional life, (and) if you live under a conviction, everything is possible.”

Although Romero plans to keep fighting well into his forties and, who knows, perhaps into his fifties, the fan favorite admits he doesn’t know what he’ll do after retirement. According to him, ‘sport is life.’

”Sport is life,” he said. “I love life. So I need to do the sport.”

UFC 248, which features Adesanya vs. Romero as the main event, will take place this Saturday, March 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
