Jon Jones recently revealed his plans to crossover into the WWE. For the UFC light heavyweight champion, it is an “inevitable” move to make since he sees a similarity between pro-wrestling and mixed martial arts.
“I have the size and athleticism and the following to transition over really well. To get the opportunity to just show up, even as a special guest, would be a dream come true,” he said.
These comments got to RAW Women’s champion Becky Lynch, who admitted she wasn’t pleased by them.
“Inevitable? That is a pretty big word,” Lynch told ESPN’s Marc Raimondi in a recent interview.
“Look, I think people think that this is a cakewalk. There is nothing like what we do. And it’s not as simple as just walking in here. You have to make a name for yourself. And you have to be obsessed with this. You have to love this.
“This isn’t a thing where you have one fight every six months,” she added. “This is a thing where you are fighting three, four, sometimes seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. And for people to sometimes think that it’s an easy thing that they can just stroll into. It kinda irks me. It irks me. It does.”
But if there’s one fighter whom Lynch feels would be a good fit into the WWE, it is fellow Irish sports star Conor McGregor.
“Look, he’s got the personality,” Lynch said of McGregor. “A lot of it, he’s taken from WWE. He took the walk, and he gets it. He gets the promo aspect of it, he gets talking aspect of it. But look, he’s a hell of an athlete.
“But again, you gotta love this. You gotta be obsessed with it.”
Former UFC fighters Matt Riddle and Cain Velasquez have previously made their transition to pro-wrestling. Both are currently signed with the WWE.
