The UFC Busan co-main event just witnessed the promotion’s #8 ranked light heavyweight, Volkan Oezdemir, take a split decision over the #10 ranked, Aleksandar Rakic. Oezdemir had to overcome an early storm, but delivered some damaging leg kicks that badly injured the leg of Rakic. Oezdemir now owns back to back victories as he prevents Rakic from moving further up the ladder.

Rakic started hot! He blasted Oezdemir with some hard punches before trying to muscle a guillotine. Oezdemir broke free and the light heavyweights started to exchange in open space. Rakic hit a trip and took the fight to the ground but Oezdemir was able to stand back up. On the feet, Rakic continued to get the better of the exchanges.

Oezdemir came out working his leg kicks in round two, causing some serious swelling just below the knee of lead leg of Rakic. Oezdemir then found himself fighting off takedown attempts. Rakic was trying to get the fight to the floor, but Oezdemir wasn’t having it. Oezdemir was able to kick the damage leg a few more times as the activity of Rakic started to dwindle.

Rakic tried to grapple again in the final round. He was able to close the distance and shove Oezdemir against the cage, but nothing came of it before the fight returned to open space. Oezdemir pressed forward and Rakic looked to counter with straight punches. The injured leg of Rakic definitely hurt his output.

Volkan Oezdemir def. Aleksandar Rakic by split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29) : Light Heavyweight
