The Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark was home to a decent night of fights. The card saw four (T)KOs, two submissions, and seven decisions, including a split-decision.
PERFORMANCES OF THE NIGHT: Jack Shore, John Phillips, Ovince Saint Preux, Jared Cannonier
Jack Shore dominated Nohelin Hernandez for the entire fight up until he submitted “Suave” in the third round. The fight was a tale of lethal leg kicks and hard jabs, punctuated by Shore’s excellent grappling. Hernandez was completely outclassed, and to be honest, didn’t look like he belonged in the octagon. By the time the third round arrived, Shore was taking Hernandez down at will (just five seconds in) and doing whatever he wanted. Midway through, Shore beat the tar out of Hernadez’s ribs, forcing him to turn away. Jack attacked the back (yes, I know, I’m a master rhymer), snaked his arm underneath Nohelin’s chin and cranked it tight until the American was forced to tap.

John Phillips didn’t need much time to take out Alen Amendovski, finishing him in under a minute. After just a couple seconds of wild stand and bang, both taking huge shots, Phillips land a rocket right and followed with several more bombs, including a big left hook that put the Macedonian on the canvas. He followed him down and landed a few more before the ref waved the fight off. This all happened in 17 seconds.

After being dominated in the first round, OSP went back to the well for what has become his trademark submission. Michal Oleksiejczuk was piecing Saint Preux up with knees and punches, beating him up in the clinch and standing. OSP did land a few shots, but not enough to win the round. The second was starting to look like the first, but Oleksiejczuk allowed the takedown and OSP seized the opportunity grab the Von Flue. After some adjustments, he finally gets it, forcing the tap. That marks VFC number four, which should be officially re-christened as the Von Preux choke.

Jared Cannonier demolished Sweden’s Jack Hermansson, stuffing takedowns, and pushing through a hellacious start with Jack punishing his legs with hard kicks and landing some hard punches up top. Hermansson even hit a suplex and a trip before catching Cannonier’s leg on a failed kick attempt. But Jared turned the tables, blasting “Joker” and then finding a home for some better timed kicks. The second round was short and sweet, with the finishing sequence kicked off with a nasty uppercut from Cannonier that put Hermansson on his back. Jared followed him down and swarmed with punches as Jack turtled up. Marc Goddard had finally seen enough and called a stop to the contest.
