Conor McGregor took to social media again recently, simply dropping a date and a place on Twitter. This could obviously mean any number of things, but it did lead to a bit of discussion and speculation from fans about a possible return fight.

Interestingly enough, Dustin Poirier started hinting at a December return as well just a few minutes later.

Shortly after losing his shot at the lightweight belt, Poirier called for a bout with McGregor, saying that the rematch “makes a lot of sense” now that they’re both coming off title losses to Khabib Nurmagomedov. This led to a brief back and forth on social media from both fighters.

With this latest exchange, does it seem likely that they’re indeed on a collision course? Well, this wouldn’t really be the first time McGregor used social media to try and posture, negotiate and push what he wants. I guess we’ll find out soon enough, but there’s more than enough reasons to remain skeptical of this actually happening.

December 14 is the date for UFC 245, but it is a pay-per-view that is already set to be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A title fight has already been booked for this card between Amanda Nunes and Germaine de Randamie. Although yet to be officially announced, there have been reports that Max Holloway could also defend his title against Alexander Volkanovski on the same card as well.

Even without that second title fight, it seems unlikely that the UFC would move an entire event to Dublin in short notice. Even less likely is that they’d put McGregor — and his massive paycheck — in a three-rounder that just had a main card slot.
