It may not be for a UFC title, but there is a lot of expectations behind the matchup between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal. For Diaz, it is a fight to determine who the “baddest motherf—r” in the game is. Likewise, Masvidal believes it is a fight that fans want to see.

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington, however, doesn’t think too highly of the said pairing.

“Yeah, you know, it’s the battle of the journeyman. It’s an exciting fight, the battle of the 500-level fighter,” Covington told TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter in a recent interview (transcript by MMA Mania). Nate Diaz is 1-1 in the last three years, and Jorge Masvidal is 2-2 in the last year or two.

“So it’s the battle of the journeymen, .500 fighter. So I am excited to see who comes out on top.”

Covington later clarified that there is no rift between him and Masvidal, and that he was merely speaking the truth.

“No, not at all, no trouble in paradise,” Covington said. “Have I said anything that’s a lie? Where is the lie? I am saying all truth and facts here.

“If someone gets mad at me or a media member, or him even, for saying facts, then you are living in denial, a delusional world.

“There is no beef, he is still my best friend,” he continued. “Man, we go way back and you don’t know what me and that guy have been through. We have been through so much together so I got nothing but respect and love for him. He’s my brother.”

Covington is next in line to fight Kamaru Usman for the undisputed UFC welterweight title. The fight date and venue has yet to be determined.
