In less than two weeks’ time, Jon Jones is slated to defend his UFC light heavyweight title against Thiago Santos. “Marreta” is known for his finishing power, as seen through the 15 out of his total 21 wins via knockout.
“Bones”, however, isn’t too bothered about the power that his challenger possesses.
“No, I’m not worried about him at all,” Jones said Monday on the Ariel Helwani MMA Show (transcript by MMA Mania). “I feel like my fiancée is strong enough to knock me out if I put my hands behind my back and let her punch me right in the chin.”
“A lot of people hit hard. Anyone has the power to knock out anybody. My manager can knock me out if I let him punch me in the face.”
For Jones, intelligent fighters pose a bigger threat to him than any of the hard-hitters in the roster.
“It’s about being smart enough to be able to land that punch,” he said. “I am not worried about heavy hitters, everyone hits hard. The fighters that concern me the most are the intelligent fighters.
UFC 239 is scheduled to take place on July 6th in Las Vegas, for International Fight Week. Co-headlining the card is the women’s bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Holly Holm.
