Dominick Reyes: One or two more fights, then Jon Jones and I are dancing

After his win over Volkan Oezdemir this past weekend at UFC London, Dominick Reyes has his eyes on the division’s current champion, Jon Jones.

Reyes (11-0) extended his undefeated record with a close split decision win against Oezdemir on the London card. “The Devastator” is 5-0 in the UFC since making his debut back in June 2017.

Talking on the most recent edition of The MMA Hour, Reyes feels he needs one or two more fights before he takes on Jones.

“I feel that I need another fight under my belt before I fight Jon,” Reyes said. “So maybe one, two more, and we’re dancing.”

The only clear contender at light heavyweight to currently challenge Jones seems to be Thiago Santos, despite only making his debut at 205-pounds in September of last year. Reyes praised Jones’ most recent title defense against Anthony Smith at UFC 235, citing the stellar execution of his gameplan for the win.

“Championship performance,” Reyes said about Jones’ win. “He’s the champ for a reason. He has great game plans and he did his thing. It was just classic Jon, neutralizing his opponent and getting the win.”

“I think the common thread would be people kind of get in their own heads and let Jon dictate the pace of the fight as opposed to just throwing caution to the wind or — I feel (Alexander Gustafsson) did it best with his movement and avoiding those knee kicks. Jon puts you in awkward situations, he’ll make you do things that you’re not as comfortable doing, but he’ll put you there.”

After Reyes’ post-fight interview at UFC London, Jones replied to the undefeated contender on social media, stating he has been waiting for someone to defeat him for eight years.
