We are closing in on fight time for Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia – maybe a superfight, maybe a mismatch, but definitely a big event in boxing right now. The two men are set to do battle Saturday night for Spence’s Welterweight title in front of a large crowd at AT&T Stadium in Texas, plus on PPV. With the fight drwing near, here’s a look at the latest odds, courtesy of Bovada:
Errol Spence Jr. -380
Mikey Garcia +290
Spence is the favorite, and rightly so given the significant size advantage he’ll carry into the ring Saturday night. But these odds also indicate that fans have bought into the idea that this is a competitive fight, not the blow-out some worry it may be. From my side, while I think Garcia will make it a tough fight, I also don’t see a route to him winning. So these close odds don’t work well for a Garcia pick, but if you are thinking about putting some money on Spence, this is not a bad line.
Here is the info on the rest of the card:
Luis Nery -3000
McJoe Arroyo +1100David Benavidez -2250
J’Leon Love +950Chris Arreola -360
Jean Pierre Augustin +270
Both Nery and Benavidez are prohibitive favorites, as they should be. The Heavyweight fight is closer, with the veteran Arreola favored. I’m picking him to win as well, but it’s worth noting that he’s 38, only has one fight (a win over a 20-10-4 opponent) since mid-2016, and had only won 2 of his last 7 prior to that. Augustin is undefeated, though coming off his own 15 month layoff and taking a step up. But if you’re looking for a good underdog pick, Augustin is a tempting option.
Finally, the other big fights taking place this weekend on DAZN and ESPN+:
Tevin Farmer -1100
Jono Carroll +650Michael Conlan -10000
Ruben Garcia Hernandez +1600
