Dominick Reyes: Khabib’s ‘tantrum’ at UFC 229 overshadowed my win over Saint Preux

UFC 229 will now be remembered for the post-fight brawl that took place between Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor, and their respective corner men. And for undefeated light heavyweight Dominick Reyes, the ruckus spoiled his dominant win over Ovince Saint Preux that night.

“It took away from my shine a little bit,” Reyes said in a recent MMA Junkie interview. “It was a little frustrating, because it’s kind of childish and very immature. We’re professionals. You’re acting like a kid, throwing a tantrum. You won. Who wins and is a sore winner? I’ve never heard of that before.

“That was a little bit frustrating for me, because my performance was a bit overshadowed by that whole fiasco, and this time I don’t think that’s going to happen,” he added. “We’ve got consummate professionals on this card, and we’ve got some scrappers, and my performance is not going to be overshadowed.”

Khabib did bear the brunt of the sanctions for the brawl, as he currently faces a nine-month suspension and a $500,000 fine.

The number eight-ranked Reyes will face former title contender Volkan Oezdemir this Saturday at UFC on ESPN+ 5, which takes place at the O2 Arena in London.
