UFC 196: Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz is one of the all-time classics, and ‘The Notorious’ took some time to reflect on the bout, and the subsequent rematch at UFC 202, on Tuesday’s three-year anniversary.
McGregor lost the first bout via rear-naked choke but came back to win the rematch at UFC 202 in a nail-biting majority decision.
The Irishman hailed his first scrap with Diaz ‘one of the craziest fights ever’ and used the rematch to encourage his fans to never give up.
It’s fascinating to me watching that loss back. Then watching the come back.
We can always come back!
Anyone can do something once. It’s Can you do it twice is the question. That’s why I doubled up on the belts every time.
Any fool can do it once.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) March 6, 2019
What a sequence!
One of the craziest fights ever.
Also the birth of McGregor FAST!
The rematch was voted the greatest fight in UFC history.
My last one was a small bit wild also haha
I love this game.
This is my 3rd level of income at this point.
I just do it because I love it. https://t.co/hSjAr3moE7— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) March 6, 2019
Diaz, who hasn’t fought since his loss to McGregor at UFC 202, soon got news of McGregor’s comments and felt it necessary to respond with the following fiery Tweet.
You acting like you came back ☘️
in real life your dead— Nathan Diaz (@NateDiaz209) March 7, 2019
“You acting like you came back. In real life, you’re dead,” Diaz posted on Wednesday.
Diaz isn’t the most active fighter as of late, but the Stockton local did flip off Colby Covington while cageside for UFC 235 last weekend.
As for McGregor, the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion seems interested in a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. This despite the rumors of current negotiations with Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.
