Alexander Emelianenko is once again facing serious criminal charges.

The MMA fighter best known as the younger brother of heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko was arrested Kislovodsk, Russia this past weekend on DUI charges after crashing into two vehicles with his golden Mercedes while trying to evade police officers.

The incident reportedly took place after Emelianenko, who had parked his car in an illegal zone, attempted to prevent traffic police from towing his vehicle. He allegedly locked himself in the car and attempted to escape, at which point he crashed into two other vehicles. Emelianenko was eventually detained. The incident was captured on video.

Emelianenko was escorted to a police department in Kislovodsk, where he was charged with a DUI, evading arrest, and insulting a government official. A local court placed the MMA fighter in custody for 10 days.

“The court found guilty and appointed an administrative arrest for 10 days,” the judge said, reading the decision.

The longtime heavyweight was scheduled to compete for the Russian Cagefighting Championship (RCC) promotion against Wagner Prado on May 4. However, the promotion’s executive director Nikolai Klimenko announced that the fight had been canceled.

”The fight of Emelianenko, scheduled for May 4, has been cancelled,” Klimenko told TASS.ru.

This is not the first time that Emelianenko has faced serious criminal charges for heinous crimes. In May 2015, the fighter was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for aggravated sexual assault, which included withholding his housekeeper’s passport and extorting her for sexual favours. He was released on parole in November 2016 and spent the majority of the following two years living in Chechnya at the behest of the republic’s president, Ramzan Kadyrov.
