The UFC 235 card is underway and the Fight Pass portion of the prelims just finished up with Edmen Shahbazyan running through Charles Byrd in just 38 seconds. Being managed by former UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey, the 9-0 Shahbazyan is now 2-0 with the promotion. Byrd has now lost back-to-back bouts sending his UFC record to 1-2.

Before that, Macy Chiasson scored an impressive first-round stoppage of Gina Mazany, dropping her with one punch amidst a flurry. Chiasson remains undefeated in her young career, and the 4-0 fighter has won both of her UFC contests. Opening up the event, Hannah Cifers got her first UFC win by handing Polyana Viana her second-straight loss. Cifers leaned on her boxing to sway two of the three judges and walk away with the split decision.

Fight Pass prelims:

Edmen Shahbazyan def. Charles Byrd by TKO at :38 of round 1 : Middleweight

Byrd shot in early on Shahbazyan, but some brutal Travis Browne elbows were waiting for him. Elbow after elbow landed, causing Byrd to fold up. The referee was right on top of the action to wave off the bout and prevent any unnecessary damage. Eek!

Macy Chiasson def. Gina Mazany by TKO at 1:49 of round 1: (W) Bantamweight

Chiasson blasted her kicks to open up the bout, followed by clinching up her opponent against the fence. Mazany found her separation, but Chiasson was right behind in pursuit. Punch after punch was launched for Chiasson, and then one of then connected and slumped Mazany. Wow!

Hannah Cifers def. Polyana Viana by split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29): Strawweight

A hesitant kickboxing bout went on across the first half of the opening round, without much damage being dealt out. Viana pulled guard and attacked a leg lock at one point, but Cifers was able to escape back up tp her feet. A big right hand dropped Viana towards the end of the round, and Cifers allowed her opponent to stand back to her feet.

Viana came out throwing some volume and attacking the lead leg of Cifers. A left slap to the face sat down Cifers, which brought the bout down to the ground. Viana worked from her back for the rest of the round, but a whole bunch of time clicked off the clock without a lot of offense going on.

Viana showed up in the third round out-landing Cifers on the feet. She was mixing up her kicks, punches, as well as knees while her opponent was mostly throwing her hands. Cifers really tried to connect with her overhand right, but didn’t really switch it up in any way. The strawweights traded right in front of each other for what was a rather entertaining final ten seconds.
