T.J. Dillashaw had high hopes heading into his title bout against Henry Cejudo at UFC on ESPN+1.
The reigning bantamweight champion was planning to steamroll Cejudo in the main event, capture the flyweight title, and then move up to the featherweight division in hopes of becoming a three-division world champ.
That didn’t quite go as planned, however, as Cejudo dropped Dillashaw several times before earning the TKO stoppage at 0:32 of the opening round.
Dillashaw is absolutely livid with the result, as the 32-year-old felt the referee intervened and stopped the fight way too early.
“This is not right. It’s complete bullsh-t. I’m completely effing bitter right now. I’m pretty pissed off. I worked my ass off, bro. I’m about to f—ng cry. I put in a lot of work,” Dillashaw said at the post-fight press conference.
The Ultimate Fighter 14 finalist has somewhat simmered down since then, however, but is still devastated with Saturday night’s disastrous result.
“Well F*#% that didn’t go as planned. Sorry to all my fans that I didn’t get to show all my hard work. Tough one to swallow having the fight taken from me like that. But I need to lead by example for my son and practice what I preach, brush my self off and pray that I get the chance to do it again,” Dillashaw posted on Instagram earlier.
Although Dillashaw wants an immediate rematch, it’s highly unlikely that the UFC will grant his request. The top-five pound-for-pound fighter is much more suited to the bantamweight division and would be wise to return to 135 lbs. to defend his title.
