Tyron Woodley: I’ll fight Colby Covington after Kamaru Usman, ‘probably in June’

The UFC’s decision to have Kamaru Usman fight Tyron Woodley next did not sit well with Colby Covington. So much so that the controversial welterweight contender put Dana White on blast, while calling for his release from the UFC at the same time.

Woodley himself has his share of disagreements with the UFC’s decisions, but he is on board with this one.

“Obviously the world would like to see me f—k Colby up right quick but I think he’s trying to call shots and he’s not a champ so he can’t really do that,” Woodley told TMZ Sports (transcript via MMA Fighting). “So I’m gonna go out there and fight Kamaru Usman and we’ll see what happens after that. Most likely, I‘ll end up fighting Colby next up.”

Woodley will face Usman on March 2nd at UFC 235. If he does defend his title for the fourth time, he intends to deal with Covingon, next.

“Yeah, I’ll fight Colby next after that. Probably in June,” Woodley said. “I think they’ve got a fight in Chicago in June. I’m a midwest guy. I train in Milwaukee which is an hour and a half from Chicago, St. Louis is not that far, and I think I’ve got strong roots there as well so it would be a good fight to headline on that card.”

As of this posting, the only fight card that has been scheduled for the month of June is UFC 238, which is set to take place on June 8th.
