It wasn’t easy, but WBC interim middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (28-0, 21 KOs) was able to get a unanimous decision win over late notice replacement Matt Korobov (28-2, 14 KOs) in the PBC on FOX main event in Brooklyn, New York. This salvaged the night for the Charlo twins, with Jermell Charlo losing his WBC super welterweight belt to Tony Harrison in controversial fashion.

Jermall had considerable trouble all night with Korobov’s razor-sharp straight left hand, but Korobov certainly wasn’t training for a 12-rounder, and understandably faded as the fight progressed. Charlo had Korobov on skates in the final round, but could not finish the Russian.

Two judges had it a reasonable 116-112 for Charlo, while Larry Hazzard Jr turned in a ridiculous 119-108 scoreline, giving Charlo a 10-8 12th round. This certainly wasn’t a sparkling performance by Charlo, but Korobov at his peak was a very talented fighter with a prolific amateur record, so this figured to be a tougher fight than Willie Monroe Jr, the original opponent who was yanked from the show after failing his drug test.

Watch the highlights of this bout in the clips below.

Check out Fraser Coffeen’s play-by-play of the last round:

Round 12: Charlo opens the round by landing the best punch of the fight for either man – a hard shot that hurts Korobov and sends him staggering around the ring. Korobov would survive without going down, but this was the most either man was hurt in the fight, and the most definitive round. 10-9 Charlo

Final score on my card: 115-113 Charlo
