The headliner for the first of two Bellator MMA shows over the next two nights is a lightweight title rematch between champion Brent Primus and Michael Chandler. Primus took the belt from Chandler last year via injury TKO, and this is his first defense of the belt. In the co-main event, former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir looks for his first Bellator MMA win, as he takes on Javy Ayala.

Main Card (10 PM ET, Paramount/DAZN)
Brent Primus vs. Michael Chandler – Bellator lightweight title
Round 1 – Early kick from Primus. Chandler blocks the one to the head. Right to the body by Chandler. Leg kick by Primus. Chandler takes another leg kick and eats a counter left hook. Hard body kick by Primus. Big left hand stuns Primus and there’s a flash knockdown! The champ is firing back but Chandler cracks him again. Right uppercut jacks the jaw of Primus. The fight goes to the ground with Chandler on top. Primus warned for toes interlocked with the fence. Chandler not able to get much offense off inside Primus’ guard apart from some short elbows. Now he postured up and drops down some right hands. Primus continues to lock his toes along the fence. Heavy elbows by Chandler. Primus getting a dose of ground-and-pound. Big round for Chandler. 10-9 Chandler.
Round 2 – Chandler checks a leg kick and buzzes Primus with a jab. Nice jab again by Chandler but he gets countered with a jab. Michael digs into the body but absorbs a leg kick that buckles him momentarily. Chandler gets caught with a left hand and is stumbling! Primus takes the back and is going for a rear-naked choke! Is Chandler in trouble? He escapes the choke! Primus now on the bottom as Chandler reverses position! Primus grabs the fence with his hand. He’s close to having a point taken away. Chandler posturing up, stacking Primus and dishing some heavy ground punches. Elbows by Chandler. Vicious right hand hits chest and not head. Chandler is in Primus’ guard with over a minute to go. Picks him up and does a mini-slam. Another big elbow by Chandler, who’s stealing back this round. Chandler with some more strikes before the bell sounds. 20-18 Chandler.
Round 3 – Big swing and a miss by Chandler. Primus sticking out the jab. Lands a right hand and Primus drives forward but can’t do much from there. Spearing jab by Chandler. Two right hands by Chandler and that leads to a takedown by the challenger. Michael again on top throwing short shots and keeping busy. Primus AGAIN locks the toe in the cage. Right hands by Chandler and Herb Dean slaps Primus’ foot away once more. Primus has a hematoma on his forehead. The champ looks for a leg and a possible sweep but is unable to do so. Chandler rides out the remaining 30+ seconds on top. 30-27 Chandler.
Round 4 – Primus comes out super charged up and gets bopped right away. He gets in a right hand over the top a few seconds later. Uppercut and right by Primus, but Chandler has the takedown again. Chandler repeating previous rounds with ground-and-pound and dominant top control. Elbow across the face for Chandler. A shorter elbow by Chandler. Primus largely helpless off of his back. He goes for an arm and Chandler easily fends it off. Another round in Chandler’s favor. 40-36 Chandler.
Round 5 – Chandler connects on a jab. Good leg kick by Primus but he takes two punches in the process. Hard body shot by Chandler after getting countered, and there’s another takedown for Chandler. Primus trying to scramble to his feet… to no avail. Right hand by Chandler. Primus’ shoulder lock effort doesn’t even get out of the gate. Chandler throwing more ground strikes. Primus going for an armbar, backfires, and Chandler delivers more punishment. Primus finally bucks him off, only to be taken down three seconds later. He kicks him away again but Chandler is all over him. Under 20 ticks remaining. Primus creates a scramble, back to his feet, gets whacked with a knee, taken down again and that’s the end. Michael Chandler is about to win his title back. Again. 50-45 Chandler.
Official result – Michael Chandler def. Brent Primus by unanimous decision (50-45 x3) to become the new Bellator lightweight champion
Frank Mir vs. Javy Ayala
Round 1 – Early clinch amounts to nothing. Mir charges in with a straight left. Leg kick by Mir and now he ducks under, gets underhooks and a takedown. Mir softening Ayala up with body punches on the ground. He tries to isolate an arm from half-guard. Mir going for a kimura but Ayala is fighting it. Frank is in side control and dropping down punches. He elbows Ayala in the stomach twice, but can’t get a full hold of that left arm of Ayala. Mir with elbows to the head. Ayala throws an elbow off of his back but he’s getting dominated. Mir passes to mount but Ayala explodes to his feet. Ayala with clinch knees to the body and a short elbow. Outside trip takedown by Mir with under 30 seconds. He ends the round on top. 10-9 Mir.’
Round 2 – Ayala with a right hand but Mir turns the corner and easily takes Javy down again. Mir with a couple of short punches and then a knee to the gut as Ayala gets back up. Mir is bloodied up, possibly by an elbow. He gets hit with a head kick. They nearly clash heads as the two men are tied up in the clinch. Another elbow by Ayala as Mir is clearly bothered by the cut. He drops down for a single leg on Ayala, who sprawls and throws heavy shots to Mir’s rib cage. Knee to the body by Ayala as Mir just holds onto the leg. Ayala beating up Mir with right hands to the head as Frank gets back to his feet and is cracked by another elbow. That is a NASTY cut. Ayala leaning on Mir and throwing knees to the thigh of Mir. Mir turns the tables and cracks Ayala with a big knee and a hard left hand! Mir seemingly got clipped on the way towards his next takedown attempt, and he can’t get it. Ayala throwing short lefts and Mir is in noticeable pain… he’s just tapped out! The cut poured so much blood into his eyes and that must have been what led to the tap.

A.J. McKee vs. Daniel Crawford
Round 1 – McKee with a turning side kick, followed by a leg kick. Good body kick by AJ. Crawford coming forward throwing some short punches on the inside, but McKee stays calm. Takedown attempt by McKee, which Crawford is defending. Pretty much a stalemate against the fence. McKee adjusts and now puts Crawford down. AJ with some ground-and-pound, Crawford goes for a leg and McKee scrambles and has a head lock. McKee going for the anaconda choke and gets Crawford to tap!

Alejandra Lara vs. Juliana Velasquez
Round 1 – Leg kick by Lara. Wow, almost a hook kick by Lara and then she lands a left hand, followed by a leg kick. Good jab by Lara and a leg kick again. Velasquez clips Lara while moving forward. Good albeit brief exchange in the center of the cage by both women. Lara grabs a hold of a leg and then clinches up. Velasquez throws a knee to the body before they break. Good left by Velasquez catches Lara off-guard. Spinning backfist by Lara but it doesn’t land cleanly. Lara going for some more fancy, flashy striking but winds up on the floor for a brief moment. Velasquez with a late takedown, getting insta-swept. The rounds ends with them in the clinch. 10-9 Lara.
Round 2 – Lara starts out with an outside leg kick. Velasquez with a jab that comes up short. Good counter shot by Velasquez. Nice takedown by Velasquez after Lara overextended herself. Lara scrambles and she’s back to her feet. Inside leg kick by Velasquez. Right hand by the Brazilian pushes the Colombian back. Lara has a kick caught and she eats a punch on the way down. Velasquez throws some kicks before Lara returns to her feet. A right-left combo by Lara but neither punch connects. She shoots for a takedown but Velasquez puts her on her back. Extended time on top for Velasquez as she throws short punches and Lara is warned for fingers in the fence. Lara is standing up again with under a minute to go. Both women get tagged as Lara finishes an exchange with a right hand over the top. Velasquez retaliates and gets in some good shots. They’re swinging away and landing on each other. 19-19.
Round 3 – Lara comes out in southpaw stance again. She’s way off on a spinning kick. Good left scores for Velasquez. Lara connects with a right hand but eats a hard counter left. Velasquez with another left hand. They clinch against the fence with half the round remaining. Lara is rolling for a leg and is going for an inverted heel hook. Velasquez holds onto Lara’s head and she seems to be out of danger. The Brazilian connects with multiple unanswered lefts and rights to Lara’s head. One minute to go. Velasquez still doesn’t have her left leg free but Lara isn’t close to a submission right now. Lara gives up her back but scrambles to her feet with 20 seconds to go. They empty the gas tank throwing power punches and then the ref almost fell down. 29-28 Velasquez.

Derek Campos vs. Sam Sicilia
Round 1 – Leg kick by Campos. Sicilia drops Campos with a quick punch! Campos back to his feet but Sicilia is looking for the finish early. Campos firing back. Hard right hand by Sicilia! Uppercut by Campos misses and then he eats a right hand and then another right! Campos has no answer for Sicilia’s right hand. Sicilia is off on an uppercut. Campos lands a jab. Head kick by Sicilia but then he falls down, then gets back up. Campos digs the body. Sicilia loading up on power shots as Campos looks to have weathered the early storm. Campos tries a spinning backfist and catches air. Big right hand by Sicilia once again! Sicilia with a left hook and then a wild right hand. Campos with a blocked combination. Sicilia drops Campos with a short left as he stumbles back and gets to his feet again. Campos sticks out the jab. Good counter shot by Campos as the round ends. 10-9 Sicilia.
Round 2 – Campos throws a right to the body. Sicilia rushing forward doubling up on the right hand, then Campos ducks a left hook, but gets his with the next hook. They start swinging haymakers in the center of the cage. Good counter right by Sicilia! Campos taking some huge shots! Massive right hand has Cmapos wobbled! Right hand again and a left hook by Sicilia, as Campos ties him up out of desperation. Campos throwing some knees and just getting time to recover. He looks for the takedown but Sicilia defends it and they’re back to the center, where Campos is drilled with an uppercut and two more punches. Sicilia letting his hands go. Campos off on an uppercut after failing to sustain any clinch offense. Sicilia gets in another brutal right hand as Campos is bloodied. Campos is in on a single leg takedown and gets it! Sicilia on his back and Campos is in guard with a minute to go. Pass to half-guard and now mount! Campos has Sicilia in trouble but Sicilia scrambles to his feet before time expires. 20-18 Sicilia.
Round 3 – Campos with a leg kick and then a jab to the chest. Now it’s Campos firing away the heavy shots and he’s able to drag Sicilia to the mat with four minutes to go. Sicilia is to his feet again and he connects with a right upstairs and then down to the body. Heavy leg kick by Campos. Another leg kick and an uppercut by Campos. Leaping left hook by Sicilia but he’s lost steam on that punch. Sicilia fails on a flying knee. Sweeping body shot by Campos. Both men miss upstairs. Two body shots and a stiff jab by Cmapos, then Sicilia fires back and tags Campos multiple times! Campos puts Sicilia up against the fence. Sicilia with short uppercuts and then they separate. Campos gets whacked with a right hand but responds with a clean uppercut. Nice counter right by Sicilia. Good level change and a takedown by Campos, who unleashes from late ground-and-pound in the dying seconds. 29-28 Sicilia.
