Yesterday, rising UFC welterweight contender Kamaru Usman revealed that he had signed a contract to challenge Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title.

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ posted a picture of the signed bout agreement on Twitter, telling ‘T-Wood’ that he’ll see him in the Octagon ‘soon.’

MMYNYTT’s Damon Martin reports that the proposed title fight is being targeted for UFC 235 on March 2 in Las Vegas, per sources.

Although Usman has signed his end of the deal, Woodley hasn’t revealed whether he has even been offered a fight contract, let alone signed it.

The reigning welterweight champion is currently nursing a thumb injury and has promised to defend his title against Colby Covington upon his return. UFC president Dana White wanted Woodley to fight ‘Chaos’ at UFC 233 on Jan. 26, but ‘The Chosen One’ declined due to his injury.

The pay-per-view was eventually cancelled after the UFC was unable to book a suitable main event. Ultimate Fighting Championship also tried to book an alternative main event between Usman and Covington, but Covington is only interested in a title bout with Woodley.

The UFC could be looking to leapfrog Usman into title contention, but it’s unlikely that Woodley will accept the fight. The 36-year-old has repeatedly stated that he must defend his title against Covington.
