That left a mark. After suffering a nasty gash due to Gunnar Nelson’s ground and pound at UFC 231, Alex Oliveira not only suffered a submission loss in the second round of the bout, but was also left with 29 stitches (h/t MMA Fighting) in his forehead. The Brazilian ‘Cowboy’ showed off the aftermath of the injury during a livestream on his Facebook page.

On the broadcast, Oliveira thanked the support of his fans, praised Gunnar’s performance and claimed to be thankful for his year of 2018, despite his last loss, and stated he will put back the loss behind him and come back better next year.

Before being tapped out by Nelson, Alex scored a couple of stoppage wins, first submitting former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit and then knocking out Carlo Pedersoli Jr. The loss marked Oliveira’s fourth in the Octagon in 14 bouts, but once again proved that he’s always an exciting, action fighter whether or not he gets his hand raised.
