It wasn’t a knockout for Vasyl Lomachenko (12-1, 9 KOs), but the Ukrainian dynamo was able to score two knockdowns late and take a clear-cut unanimous decision over a tough and formidable Jose Pedraza (25-2, 12 KOs) in front of more than 5,000 fans at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. Most in attendance were there to cheer on the consensus #1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
The official result was 119-107, 117-109, and 117-109 in favor of Lomachenko, who now has both the WBA and WBO lightweight titles, but Pedraza wasn’t without his own moments in the fight. Unfortunately for the Puerto Rican fighter, Lomachenko upped his volume as the fight progressed, loaded up on his jab, and in the 11th round he put an ungodly beating on Pedraza that yielded the two knockdowns. It’s a credit to Pedraza that he survived that onslaught.
