A short notice replacement for UFC 231, returning lightweight Jesse Ronson won’t get a chance to start a new Octagon stint after going 0-3 in his first endeavor.
After taking a bout against Carlos Diego Ferreira on just a week’s notice, the ‘Body Snatcher’ wrote on his Facebook page that he was too overweight to cut the additional pounds in a healthy manner, which ultimately led to a release from his recently signed contract.

Although it was not announced yet and the UFC 231 card is just three days away, MMA Junkie’s John Morgan reported on Twitter that the UFC wants to keep Ferreira and already have a new fighter to announce for the bout.
I’m told that Diego Ferreira (@DiegoUFCTX) will get another fight for #UFC231. Unfortunately, late replacement Jesse Ronson was approximately 20 pounds over the lightweight limit today, and UFC officials decided it was unsafe for him to try and make weight. New name coming.

Jesse Ronson’s (19-8) first Octagon stint was a rather frustrating one. On an eight-fight win streak then, Ronson made his debut shortly after winning the AFC belt in July 2013, but ended up dropping a split decision to Michel Prazeres in September of the same year. Ronson would go on to lose via split decision twice more, to Francisco Trinaldo and Kevin Lee, and was released following the Lee loss, in July 2014.
UFC 231 will take place on December 8, in Toronto, Canada. The card will be headlined by a featherweight title fight between champion, Max Holloway and top contender, Brian Ortega.
