Mark Hunt: ‘I want to compete five more times, at least’ after UFC Adelaide

Back in February, MMA veteran Mark Hunt was looking to take three more fights outside of the UFC, before finally calling it quits. Nine months later, his tone had partially changed, as the 44-year-old “Super Samoan” has added two more fights to his supposed plan, while seemingly pushing retirement back a little further.

“Looking at trying to do some other things next year,” Hunt told MMAjunkie. “I want to compete five more times, at least – because I still have the fire inside of me to do it – and go from there. We’ll see what happens.”

Hunt is one of the big names on the roster who just never had the chance to get hold of UFC gold. While he admits that there is some disappointment in there, he also says he already came to terms with the fact that he will never get the opportunity to do so.

“Of course I feel like there’s more to do,” he said. “Half the guys I lost to are freaking cheaters. There’s so much more to do, but it’s not my call. I never got the opportunities. After Derrick Lewis, I got No. 7, No. 9, now I’ve got No. 13.

“F—k it, I’m not going to get another shot, and that’s the way it is. I’m done with it. I’m at peace with it.”

Hunt will be fighting the last fight in his contract this Saturday in Adelaide, Australia against Justin Willis, whom he says he is not familiar with. Nonetheless, he is satisfied with what he had accomplished in the UFC, so far.

“I didn’t know much about him,” Hunt said of Willis. “I know he comes from a great camp, but … you know me. It could have been King Kong. I don’t give a damn. I’m in there.

“I just wanted to complete my contract, and that’s basically the bottom line. I’m happy where I’m at. I’m at peace with everything, and things are good.”

UFC Adelaide will be headlined by a heavyweight fight between former champion Junior Dos Santos and Tai Tuvasa.
