Chuck Liddell might not be set on retirement, but fellow UFC legend Tito Ortiz most definitely is.
‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ knocked out Liddell in the first round of their trilogy bout at Golden Boy Promotions, headed by ‘The Golden Boy’ himself, former boxing world champion Oscar De La Hoya.
Shortly after his brutal knockout win, Ortiz, who was previously KO’d by ‘The Iceman’ at UFC 47 and UFC 66, announced that he would be hanging up the gloves to pursue his career as a fight promoter.
“I’m done,” Ortiz said at the post-fight press conference at The Forum in Inglewood, California (h/t Christopher Taylor of BJPenn.com). “There is nobody left I want to fight. I just want to continue to help the sports grow as a promoter. I want to help give back to the fighters.”
Ortiz last fought in 2017 against Chael Sonnen, submitting ‘The American Gangster’ with a rear-naked choke in the Bellator 170 main event. The former UFC light heavyweight champion parted ways with Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2012 but went on to compete under the Bellator banner, winning three of his four fights in the MMA promotion.
Liddell, who is considered one of the greatest light heavyweight fighters of all-time, retired from the sport in 2010 after suffering three back-to-back knockout losses. His comeback at Golden Boy Promotions marked the seventh KO loss of his career.
