In a fight 15 years in the making, Tito Ortiz finally scored a win over his career rival Chuck Liddell. Here’s how it went down.
Light Heavyweight: Tito Ortiz def. Chuck Liddell via KO (punches), round 1 (4:24)
Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz 3 opened with both men circling, slowly. Liddell in particular was extremely tentative, throwing single punches with very little urgency behind them. Ortiz seemed to have more pop in his step, moving and throwing more. Neither man looked confident though, with both stumbling as they slowly worked. Throughout Liddell landed nothing worthwhile. Eventually, Ortiz managed to land a series of punches, putting Liddell down and out.
Post-fight, a clearly excited Ortiz went into his trademark gravedigger routine while Liddell lay prone on the mat. The commission officials attempted to stop him, but he continued on. In the post-fight interviews, Ortiz was non-committal about his future and if this was indeed his final fight. As was Liddell.
