Saturday night was quite bittersweet for amateur MMA fighter Jack Culshaw. After a first-round TKO win over opponent Zak Edwards at Almighty Fighting Championships 10 in York, England, the 21-year-old from the United Kingdom injured himself after a post-fight celebration gone wrong.
As seen on the clip above, Culshaw went up to one of the cage’s fences in jubilation, but failed to drop back down properly. It then resulted to an awkward fall that left him unable to properly stand on his right leg.
Culshaw was able to speak to MMA Fighting about what happened, where he revealed that he may have actually injured both of his legs.
“I went and had an X-ray and there are no bones broken, but do you know the patella, the knee cap? That’s been twisted around and they think my ACL is blown,” Culshaw explained. “We’ll have to wait and see, but they have to look at my other leg too, the left leg, they said that knee could go as well. So when they’re done with the rehab on my right leg, they’re going to have to do my left leg as well.”
Doctors apparently told Culshaw that his knees may have been weakened from years of running and weightlifting. According to the fighter himself, his right knee was already problematic throughout the night.
“It popped straight out just then. I thought, ‘I’m not going down now’, so I did a roll and I got back up,” he recalled. “I put my foot back down again and [my knee] went out again. It went out four times that night.”
But instead of being demoralized by this major setback, Culshaw chooses to see the bright side of the situation.
“I’m loving it, to be fair,” said Culshaw, who hopes to be back before the end of 2019. “It’s getting my knockout about, so more people will know my name, more people will get me on their shows and then more people might sponsor me.
“It’s getting my name bigger and bigger, so any publicity is good publicity in my eyes.”
