The UFC men’s flyweight division is reportedly set to be closed after six years, presumably as a cost-cutting measure, especially with the historical lack of interest in the weight class from fans. According to FloCombat, not every flyweight will get the opportunity to just move up to bantamweight, and instead they’ll just be outright released.
Since the report came out, two fighters have publicly announced that they’re no longer with the UFC.
Former Titan FC flyweight and bantamweight champion Jose “Shorty” Torres told fans in a video that he’s been released after his KO loss to Alex Perez.

Torres entered the UFC on short notice to take on Jarred Brooks, winning by KO after Brooks was rendered unconscious on a botched slam. As it turns out, Brooks is also gone, having come off a win against Roberto Sanchez at UFC 228. His UFC record finishes at 2-2, with three of his four bouts going to a split decision. That he came off a win and had four fights may hint that the UFC didn’t renew his contract.

As for the future of UFC flyweight champion Henry Cejudo, the plan is for him to move up to bantamweight to challenge T.J. Dillashaw for his title in early 2019, as Cejudo seeks to become a two-division king, but win or lose, Cejudo’s future would be at 135.
