World Boxing Super Series fight preview: Prograis vs Flanagan, Baranchyk vs Yigit on DAZN

This week in the World Boxing Super Series tournaments we get a pair of fights in the Super Lightweight (140 lbs.) tournament. The fights are live from New Orleans, and will stream live on DAZN this Saturday, October 27 with a fight time of 9:00 p.m. ET. Here is a preview of Saturday’s action.

Regis Prograis (22-0; 19 KOs) vs. Terry Flanagan (17-0; 14 KOs) – Super Lightweight Quarterfinal
Regis Prograis is the man to beat in this field. With the departure of Terence Crawford, Prograis has claimed the #1 spot in the division, according to Ring’s rankings. He’s had a nice rise up the ranks, cutting his teeth in ShoBox before moving up to bigger fights. He’s stopped his last 7 opponents, which includes 2nd round KOs of both Julius Indongo and Joel Diaz Jr. He’s also been training jiu jitsu lately, hanging out with Jose Aldo, and talking about a possible MMA career. He’s clearly a fighter to watch. Flanagan is a former Lightweight champion, though his title run was not widely respected as it included a lesser level of opponent. He vacated that title to move up in weight, making his 130 pound debut in June, where he lost to Maurice Hooker. This is just his 2nd fight at the weight, and is a tall task for him, no doubt. Flanagan is solid, but not special – and Prograis shows all the signs of being just that.
Prediction: Regis Prograis, KO

Ivan Baranchyk (18-0; 11 KOs) vs. Anthony Yigit (21-0-1; 7 KOs) – Super Lightweight Quarterfinal
Baranchyk is another top 10 Super Lightweight, sitting at #8 in the division. The 25 year old turned pro in 2014 and has been fighting a decent enough level of opponent for an 18-0 fighter. He looked very good in his last fight, dominating Petr Petrov in March. His opponent here is 27 year old Anthony Yigit, a Swedish fighter with minimal experience on the international stage. He represented Sweden in the 2012 Olympics, and as you would expect, is a good technician. Like some other Olympians turned pro, he has yet to show much in terms of KO power, which could spell the difference against the tough Baranchyk.
Prediction: Ivan Baranchyk, UD
