Conor McGregor immediately called for a rematch following his fourth round loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. It doesn’t seem like something the champion’s camp is interested in, and apparently Dana White agrees.
After initially denying rumors about offering Khabib big money for a rematch, the UFC President also now claimed that he prefers Tony Ferguson gets the next title shot as well.
“I haven’t even thought about a [McGregor] rematch,” White told ESPN. “Obviously, I know Conor wants a rematch. We need to do what’s right and what’s fair. We’ll see how it plays out. We literally haven’t thought about it yet.
”… As a fight fan, you’ve got to go with Tony. Tony had the belt, tweaked his knee, got stripped, this fight happens — Tony never lost the [interim] belt in a fight. Neither did Conor, but Conor got the opportunity to actually fight [Nurmagomedov]. I think Tony deserves the next shot.”
Khabib and Floyd Mayweather also have been hinting at a bizarre prospect of having a boxing match, and it is the kind of talk that Dana White says that we should all not pay attention to.
