The UFC Sao Paulo main event just witnessed the promotion’s #12 middleweight Thiago Santos pick up a TKO victory over Eryk Anders, at 205 pounds, when Anders collapsed multiple times on his way to his stool after the third round. Santos racked up several sweet strikes throughout, from kicks to Travis Browne-esque elbows alike. Anders had his moments here and there, but the short notice matchup proved to be too much. This was a great win for Santos, but hopefully Anders is okay after such a scary fall. Check out the full-fight highlights at the bottom of the page.
Check out Tim Burke’s play-by-play of the third round of Thiago Santos vs. Eryk Anders:
Round 3 – Oblique kick from Santos. Anders with two big lefts as Santos throws a kick. He gets a takedown, then gets his back. He’s landing punches. He sinks both hooks. Anders is hunting for a choke but Santos reversed position and got up. Santos lands a knee and a big kick. Spinning elbow misses. They both land huge shots! This is a war! Anders gets a body lock. They separate. Anders advances with a left. Santos with a knee but he gets taken down against the cage. He works from half. He lands a few more punches before Santos gets back up. Another takedown. Santos with big elbows though, and Anders’ mouthpiece gets knocked out. Santos lands a hard knee and that’s right when referee Marc Goddard steps in to put his piece back in. Santos is hammering Anders with punches and elbows to the horn. Anders is really hurt. He gets up but collapses again. Once again he does, but collapses yet again. The fight is waved off. Wow.
