Jessica Andrade extended her unbeaten run by picking up a huge knockout win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz in the co-main event of UFC 228.
What was the high point of the fight?
Straight away Andrade backed Kowalkiewicz up against the cage and landed some big shots that seemed to wobble the Pole. Whilst Andrade would find success swinging heavy leather, Kowalkiewicz fired back with some technical shots of her own that did trouble Andrade.
As Kowalkiewicz entered the pocket with her eyes closed and tried to land a combination on Andrade, a massive overhand right from the Brazilian crumbled Kowalkiewicz, no follow up shots were needed and “Bate Estaca” walked away with the victory.
Where do these two go from here?
After the fight, Andrade addressed Dana White who was cageside, staking her claim for a title shot against current UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas. It’s hard to deny the Brazilian, who is now unbeaten in her last three fights, as nothing else makes sense for her other than a shot at Namajunas’ 115-pound belt.
It’s a disappointing backstep for Kowalkiewicz, who seemed to be picking up some momentum at strawweight after consecutive victories against Felice Herrig and Jodie Esquibel. A fight against Tecia Torres or Claudia Gadelha, who was defeated by Tatiana Suarez earlier on the card, both are sensible fights to make for Kowalkiewicz.
Watch it now, later or never?
Given that one punch knockouts are a rare occurrence in the strawweight division, Andrade’s finish is a must see.
