The UFC returns tonight with a welterweight title clash between champion Tyron Woodley, who has not fought since July, 2017, and the upstart and undefeated Englishman Darren Till. The event was supposed to feature a women’s flyweight title fight between Nicco Montano and Valentina Shevchenko, but a medical issue for Montano put a stop to that on Friday, and she’s since lost the title.
Lost among the news of Montano not making it to the scale is the fact that Till, who is a notably large welterweight, passed his weight cut test with flying colours. For Woodley, Till presents his third title defense. His other defenses came against Stephen Thompson (twice) and Demian Maia. Till is coming off a victory over Thompson himself. Prior that he took apart Donald Cerrone. Will Woodley triumph and continue to distinguish himself from the pack at welterweight or does Till have what it takes to become only the second British fighter to claim UFC gold?
The new co-main event is Jessica Andrade vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz; in a fight that must determine the next challenger for women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas. Before that bout there’s an exciting opportunity to watch undefeated mega-prospect Zabit Magomedsharipov take on late-replacement Brandon Davis at featherweight. Rounding out the PPV are match-ups between top ranked bantamweights Jimmie Rivera and John Dodson and rising welterweights Abdul Razak Alhassan and Niko Price.
The prelims are on FX (not FS1 or 2) tonight. Those start at 8PM ET and are headlined by a strawweight clash between two TUF champions; Carla Esparza and Tatiana Suarez. Also on the prelims are a bantamweight bout between Aljimain Sterling and Cody Stamann and a welterweight battle between Geoff Neil and Frank Camcho. The prelims begin with a middleweight clash between Charles Byrd and Darren Stewart.
The UFC Fight Pass early prelims are scheduled to start at 6:15PM ET tonight. There’s a four fights planned for the streaming service. The featured Fight Pass prelim sees Diego Sanchez take on Craig White at 170lbs. Also on the early prelims are Jim Miller vs. Alex White (155), Irena Aldana vs. Lucie Pudilova (135), and Roberto Sanchez vs. Jarred Brooks (125).
