Reigning women’s flyweight champion Nicco Montano is a +850 underdog, and for good reason. Her UFC 228 co-main event opponent Valentina Shevchenko has fought elite competition in and outside the Octagon.
Whether facing Joanna Jędrzejczyk in Muay Thai competition three times, or defeating former champ Holly Holm at UFC on FOX 20, or taking women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes to the limit at UFC 215, there’s little reason to doubt that Shevchenko will likely steamroll the division’s inaugural champion on Saturday night.
During the UFC 228 open workouts in Dallas, Shevchenko did some synchronized punching and kicking for the audience with her older sister, Antonina Shevchenko, who was signed to the UFC after a dominant display on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. Both women are coming off wins, with the swagger to prove it.
