Sage Northcutt is one of the more polarizing fighters currently in the UFC. The clean-cut 22-year-old was brought into the organization three years ago as a top prospect and quickly gained a following along with a fairly lucrative contract for a fighter with little UFC experience. He has been beaten a couple of times when he elected to fight at welterweight, but has been quite effective at 155 pounds thus far.
But now, after eight UFC fights, Northcutt is a free agent. And he’s open to any and all opportunities. One of those is a bout with YouTuber Logan Paul, which he sees as a very lucrative possibility.
As a guest on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, he laid out his case for challenging Paul on Twitter a few days ago and why he would potentially take the fight:
“Any fighter fighting in the UFC would take the opportunity to take a fight against a YouTuber and stand to make several million dollars.
“I’m not too big for him. I definitely don’t outweigh him. It would be a lot of fun.
”Either [boxing or MMA] is good for the sport. I know Logan Paul just had a boxing fight. It takes a lot of courage just to step in a ring and do that. I think it’s a great opportunity for both of us.”
Paul did indeed have a recent boxing fight against a fellow YouTube star, which went to a draw. But it was a huge draw viewership-wise, getting over 800,000 buys at 10 bucks a pop. Northcutt’s coach, Team Alpha Male leader and UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber, says he has talked to Paul about a fight with Sage and it’s actually a possibility:
“I asked, ‘Are you serious about fighting Sage?’ He is not opposed to it. He does have a wrestling background and is doing some boxing now. He’s a big, strong guy. I think there is some potential there.
”The truth is, everybody wants to put Sage up against wrestlers. Logan Paul is a bigger guy than him, and he’s a wrestler. There’s some intrigue there. Never say never.”
