Early last month, talks about a possible rematch between lightweights Al Iaquinta and Kevin Lee have surfaced. “The Motown Phenom” even wanted “Ragin’ Al” for UFC 229 in October, which Iaquinta seemed to be in agreement with.
But during a recent guesting on MMAjunkie Radio, Lee showed a change of heart. According to him, Iaquinta’s constant tirades on Twitter is a “hassle” for him to deal with.
“Al’s too finicky. He’s too back-and-forth, and I ain’t about to sign no contract with nobody that I don’t think will show up, or is gonna give me a bunch of hassle,” Lee said. “He wants to go back-and-forth on Twitter, more than anything. And it’s like ‘Look, bro, I’m working. Don’t f—king bother me while I’m working. Quit f—king tweeting me and sh-t.”
“If you want me, then there are two or three people that you have to go through to get to me. I make myself very hard to reach for a reason. There are things that I’m trying to do that are more long-term than what these guys are thinking about.”
Instead, Lee is more interested in fighting Justin Gaethje, who just scored a significant first-round knockout victory over James Vick over the weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska.
“I like the Gaethje fight. I think that’s the one I’m leaning towards,” Lee said. “Gaehthje wants to fight. He don’t give a f—k. I know him personally; he’s been around Vegas a couple of times. We talked about it ourselves. He wants the fight, I want the fight, we can make it happen.”
Lee last fought in April, where he scored a fifth round TKO win over Edson Barboza.
