Right after his unanimous decision win over Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225 a week ago, UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington engaged in a heated verbal exchange with Michael Bisping on live television. The former middleweight champion was doing the interviews from the FOX Sports studios when things got a little out of hand.
As soon as he got his mic and air time, Covington immediately called out Bisping, as well as others in the panel — composed of Karyn Bryant, Kenny Florian, and Michelle Waterson — for being “haters in one studio.” Not to be outdone, “The Count” retorted back by asking why Covington had to be a “prick” about it.
On Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour, Covington aired his side, sharing how he ultimately felt that his moment was taken away from him.
“He’s an unprofessional little one-eyed twerp,” Covington said (via MMA Fighting). “Every time the UFC brings me out, I’m always professional, I’m always on time. I make weight. There’s never any issues with Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington. I always do the right things.”
“What he did on Saturday night was a complete joke,” he continued. “That was my time and my moment and he was trying to steal my spotlight. He knew the light was so bright — and usually he can’t see out of that one eye. But my spotlight was so bright, he just couldn’t help but try and jump in.”
“It’s crazy, he forgot what happened from American forefather Dan Henderson. You would think he got humbled from the last time he messed around with the red, white and blue. I’ll come across the pond and break that little, one-eyed nerd’s face.”
Covington is also not expecting to see Bisping doing the same broadcast duties once the UFC’s new deal with ESPN takes effect.
“You want to take shots at me from the Fox Sports desk, there’s a reason that they’re moving over to ESPN. He ain’t going over there.”
According to Bisping, he was simply playing on Covington’s already aggressive behavior by putting himself forward as a verbal sparring partner.
